PROTECTING VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS: OUR DIOCESE'S COMMITMENT
As Christian adults, we have a moral and legal responsibility and are entrusted by God with the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of minors and vulnerable adults as they participate in activities within or sponsored by our Diocese. It is our responsibility and commitment to provide an environment which is safe and nurturing.
To achieve the above, the diocese has a Safe Environment Program that implements training, screening, background checks, and other procedures that are designed to reduce the risk of sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults. Every parish, school, and Diocesan agency has a program, and each is responsible for its implementation and continuation.
The First step for new Volunteers:
To get cleared through the Safe Environment program to serve as a volunteer, your first step is to fill out the online screening form. Simply go to www.virtus.org. You will be asked to create a User ID and Password in order to access the form; then follow the instructions to complete the screening form.
You will need to remember your log in credentials in case you want to check your file for training dates, etc. anytime in the future.
Once you have submitted the screening form you will be contacted by our Safe Environment director, Kay Elliott. She will guide you through the rest of the process and let you know when you are cleared to volunteer. SAFE ENVIRONMENT POLICIES
The following are the policies for the Diocese of Dallas:
Renew Your Training:
The Safe Environment program requires volunteers and employees to update their training every 12 months. Select the training module below, complete and print the quiz and return it to the Safe Environment office at Prince of Peace in order to receive credit.
Safe Environment Renewal Training
If you attend a training session or workshop on any topic related to safety, it might qualify as your training update. Some of these may be: internet dangers or internet safety, bullying, CPR, training on using a defibrillator, adult abuse, Boy Scouts, etc. Document your attendance by putting the name of the session, date, and a brief description. Turn the paper into the Kay Elliott in the Pastoral Office.
